The most important aspect of my work is honoring who you are, exactly as you are.
So much of Western culture is about telling us what we are "supposed to" be. Sadly, much of psychotherapy today has this same colonial approach where an "expert" tells you how to think or feel. The space I offer is radically different. I'm here to listen to you - all of you - and to help you find more nourishing ways forward, with immense kindness. We can discover who you are, together. What a beautiful thing!
There are a few core aspects to the way I practice psychotherapy:
Building trust and our relationship. Psychotherapy isn't a generic tool I apply to you. It's a relationship we build, together. It's about kindness, love and reverence for who you are. Over time we get to know one another and build trust. And it is only here, within this container that we co-create, that you will be able to feel safe to step into your true self in ways that you never have before. Your glorious uniqueness must be witnessed, felt, and celebrated to become fully activated in your life and relationships. I find great joy in sharing this journey with my clients!
Trusting your experience. This is our guide. While some people come to therapy out of curiosity and a desire to grow, often people come because of a crisis, a problem, persistent pain or a nagging suspicion that something is missing. Western medicine pathologizes these symptoms. In contrast, I listen to this distress as if it truly matters, because it's the gateway to your continued growth.
Helping you re-inhabit and relax into your body. Our culture has taught us to ignore our bodies, but it is here that our feelings, intuitions, hearts, and our life reside. As we work together you'll learn to connect with your emotions, body sensations, movements, thoughts and dreams with more and more subtlety and ease. Over time you'll internalize the processes and awareness we engage in together so that you can keep exploring, changing, and growing beyond your time with me.
Dismantling old patterns and removing blocks. We’ll hone in on what specifically has you stuck, and then work together to shift and release these patterns so that your experience of the world begins to change. With mindfulness and precision we’ll explore automatic behaviors and patterns, empowering you to recognize them when they occur so that you can make novel choices. We’ll revisit past painful experiences ("trauma") to release any stress you may still be holding from them. Tensions and blocks you’ve held for a lifetime will start to loosen and shift, creating new possibilities.
The potential benefit of this work can be unimaginable. It often leads to being more whole, human, connected to those that you love, and more available for the new experiences and relationships you've longed for. And - it takes work, courage and commitment. There are no quick solutions. But you'll have someone that cares along on the journey with you.
